Zimbabwe: repealing adverse legislation for sanctions-lifting outlook

The Zimbabwean cabinet resolved February 12 that the Zimbabwean government’s Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA) should be repealed. The repeal of the controversial piece of legislation, which would complement the repeal of the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) of 2002 would comply with demonstrating to Western diplomatic stakeholders that the Zimbabwean government will conduct necessary democratic and human rights reforms in addition to economic policy amendments in order for sanctions to be repealed against its officials.
